acupuncture
Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese art of inserting fine needles
at selected points in the body. The Chinese believe that energy
flows through the body along channels or meridians and by inserting
needles at points along the meridians, the energy flow can be
stimulated, sedated or balanced. This is the basis for treating
a whole range of diseases.
During the treatment many patients experience heaviness in the
limbs or a pleasant feeling of relaxation; the fine needles
bear little resemblance to the better known ones used for injections.
Rosalind Beeton BAcC MBAcC DipCHM MRCHM DipCST RCST, is a member
of the British Acupuncture Council and has been working as an
acupuncturist for more than 17 years. Her membership ensures
that stringent standards of hygiene and sterilisation of needles
are followed. She has also trained in the treatment of children
with acupuncture and herbal medicine.

craniosacral
therapy
Craniosacral therapy is based on discoveries about the body's
subtle physiology, which were made by osteopaths about 100 years
ago. The findings show that every cell in a healthy body expresses
a rhythmic movement fundamental to life - which is called craniosacral
motion. Craniosacral therapists can feel this specific movement
and therefore identify the likely origin of a problem; using
their hands they reflect back to the body the pattern it is
holding, meaning it can return to a healthier mode of functioning.
Patients often feel deeply relaxed during sessions and may become
aware of heat, tingling or other sensations, while remaining
comfortably in control and calm during this completely gentle
and safe therapy.
Rosalind Beeton BAcC MBAcC DipCHM MRCHM DipCST RCST, has been
a fully trained craniosacral therapist for more than 8 years.

chinese
herbal medicine
Chinese herbal medicine is one of the great herbal systems of
the world, with an unbroken tradition going back to the 3rd
century BC. Throughout its history it has continually developed
in response to changing clinical conditions, and has been sustained
by research into every aspect of its use. More recently it has
grown rapidly in popularity in the west, whilst still forming
a major part of healthcare provision in China, where it is provided
in state hospitals alongside western medicine.
Chinese herbs are completely safe when prescribed correctly
by a properly trained practitioner. Rosalind Beeton BAcC MBAcC
DipCHM MRCHM DipCST RCST, is a member of the Register of Chinese
Herbal Medicine and has been practising for more than 11 years.

autogenic
training and therapy
AT has been used by people from all walks of life to enhance
healing, performance and creativity. It has been taught to international
sportsmen and women to enhance performance, and in the business
environment to optimise success and concentration, and to reduce
stress.
Autogenic' means 'generated from within.' Quite simply, AT brings
about profound relaxation to help negate the effects of stress,
allow recuperation and promote healing. It can restore energy
and confidence to help meet the challenges of life. People who
practice AT regularly develop a healthy dynamic balance, seeing
problems not as a threat but as a challenge.
Once learned it can be practiced at any time without further
recourse to a therapist. Practiced regularly, AT boosts the
immune system and helps many psychosomatic and stress related
illnesses.
Lilamani Woolrych BA FTCL DipLib DipAT, is a member of the British
Autogenic Society.

homoeopathy
Homoeopathy is a safe, gentle and effective form of medicine
that is free from side effects. You will be treated as a unique
and special individual, and be offered support and help even
if your case has been considered hopeless or incurable.
The first fundamental of homoeopathy states that a substance
that can cause symptoms in the healthy can cure the same symptom
in the sick. If you chop an onion, it makes your eyes water
and nose run. So, in homoeopathy we use onion in a very diluted
form to treat people with hayfever who have the same symptoms.
Homoeopathy can work quickly, easily and without danger to the
patient. Homoeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body's
own healing powers, restoring and health and balance to the
system. If you have not been helped by conventional medicines
or are worried about the side effects of prescribed drugs, then
homoeopathy is for you.

healing
In a sense, healing, (often known as Spiritual Healing or Faith
Healing), is the purest form of treatment for illness. It involves
no pills, no needles and no equipment. The laying on of hands
to heal disease is of ancient origin, and in all societies and
cultures people with healing powers are acknowledged.
From where the healing powers were derived is a matter of opinion
and debate. However, all healers feel that they act as a channel
for the healing energy, rather than doing the healing themselves.
Most reputable healers abide by the code of the National Federation
of Spiritual Healers, which ensures that healing is carried
out in a professional and ethical manner.
The Natural Medicine Centre is pleased to have the services
of Helen Hilliard. Helen was a friend and colleague of our previous
healer, Charles Siddle, who passed over in December 2000. Helen
now continues his work.

colour
therapy
This is a very ancient and powerful therapy. The vibrational
energies that constitute light are used by colour practitioners
(and are beginning to be utilised also by conventional medicine,
for example in Photodynamic Therapy). It is a therapy that works
not just with our physical body but with our emotional, mental
and spiritual aspects. We are beings of light, surrounded and
interpenetrated by the colours that constitute light. Therefore
using colour in therapy is treating with what we are, namely
light. A consultation consists of making a spinal diagnostic
chart - used to ascertain a person's physical, metabolic, emotional
and mental state - and then administering, through light the
required colours. Remedies solarised with the required colours
are given for the person to take between treatments.

colour
integrated with reflexology
Reflexology can be combined with colour therapy, so that blocked
energy can be released painlessly and ailments that fail to
respond to reflexology alone may respond to the combined treatment.
The combination is beneficial for all ailments and is a wonderful
stress reliever.
Pauline Wills is a qualified Yoga instructor, Reflexologist
and Colour Practitioner. She pioneered the integration of Colour
with Reflexology in 1990 and during the past six years she has
authored several books on colour, on reflexology and on the
integration of these two therapies. Accredited by the Complementary
Medical Association she teaches therapies widely.
